If you have read through the Revelation you would definitely be familiar with the mentioning of the Two witnesses. I wanted to discuss this topic as this is one of the interesting topics during the end times. There is a great mystery surrounding this topic and the topic of the Rapture of the Church.
I have noticed this interesting thing in the Old Testament, there are exactly 2 people who never died but were taken to heaven alive. Now this is very strange since every other person who has ever been born has died, Jesus being an exception since he is God.
Now let’s explore the word “Witness”. If we understand it correctly a witness is someone who has witnessed any event or incident or a series of events and incidents. So when the Bible says witness it means someone who has witnessed what Jesus has done for us, someone who was there when the word became flesh.
Coincidently the Old Testament says that there were 2 people, namely Enoch, Genesis 5:24 “Enoch walked with God; then he was no more because God took him away.”, and Elijah, Second Kings 2:11 “Suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. “, who didn’t die but were taken by God. There is a fair chance that it was always in God’s plan to use Enoch and Elijah as witnesses in the end times.
However, there are some other thoughts on this too as described below.
Kindly note that in the case of Enoch, the verse could also mean Enoch walked with God all the days of life and then died.
One doubt that some people might have regarding Elijah if they have read the New Testament, where Jesus says in John 3:13 “No man hath ascended to heaven but he who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.”, is whether Elijah really ascended into heaven or just seemed to ascend into heaven as described by the author of second kings.
Another viewpoint on the Two witnesses could be that there will arise two people or nations who have seen the glory of God or witnessed god through vision and will preach the gospel which might go against the will and belief of modern-day people and thus they will be punished.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this. You can post your thoughts in the comments. See you all in the next post, till then keep reading.
